Unique requirements exist for lidar systems for wind turbine control applications. Lidars must be reliable, achieve high availability, and provide useful measurements for control, all while remaining attractive from a cost-benefit perspective. In 2016, IEA Wind Task 32 workshop #2 “Optimizing Lidar Design for Wind Turbine Control Applications” brought together lidar suppliers, wind turbine manufacturers, and researchers to identify barriers preventing the widespread adoption of lidars for control and solutions for overcoming the challenges.
